Oakdale Way, Seabrook, Greater Houston, Texas

A house on Oakdale Way in Seabrook, a town in the greater Houston metro area, features light, airy living spaces and both indoor and outdoor entertainment spaces.

The house is entered through a navy blue, iron double door with ornate wrought iron scrolling in the dual pane, tempered glass panels. An arched, fixed transom window above the door adds to the natural light admitted by the door's glass panels. The spacious foyer has white marble tile flooring, pale gray walls, plus one navy blue accent wall, with white baseboards, and a vaulted white ceiling. An arched, pass-through window in a short wall connects to a room containing a bar. A geometric design chandelier, consisting of a steel cube frame around interlocking ring lights, is suspended over the center of the foyer.

The room to the right of the foyer has been used as a private bar but could be used for other purposes. It has white marble tile flooring. The walls have a white chair rail and are light gray below the chair rail. Two walls are navy blue above the chair rail, while the other two walls are light gray above the rail. The short wall between the barroom and the foyer has an arched pass-through window with a ledge on which drinks may be placed for guests passing through the foyer. Recessed lighting is installed in the ceiling. A linear chandelier is suspended over a rustic, carved wooden bar. A crossbar on the bronze chandelier holds four lights with irised Scavo glass shades. If the bar remains in the room, an interior designer may choose a rustic design style for this space. If the bar is removed, the room would be compatible with rustic, industrial, contemporary, minimalist, traditional and other design style categories.

The barroom flows into the butler's pantry which has marble tile flooring, light gray walls with white baseboards, and a light gray ceiling with white crown molding. Recessed lighting is installed in the ceiling. Two windows covered with white plantation shutters on one wall overlook the side yard. The room contains white cabinetry on two walls. The large upper cupboards are topped with small, glass-fronted cupboards. Lower cupboards have quartz countertops. A beverage refrigerator is installed in a customized niche in the lower cabinet on one wall. The other set of cabinets have floor to ceiling cupboards on the ends, with smaller upper cupboards and a quartz countertop in the center. The backsplash is white subway tile with dark grouting giving it the appearance of bricks. The countertop is wide enough to accommodate a coffee maker and a toaster oven. A work island located in the center of the room is white with a polished wood countertop and a space to hold a microwave oven. Above the island, a linear chandelier consisting of five globe lights encased in a rectangular wooden frame provides task lighting. Floor-to-ceiling stacked, glass-fronted cupboards are built into a corner near the windows.

The butler's pantry flows into the kitchen through a wide arched, cased doorway. The kitchen is a large open area with white marble tile flooring, light gray walls with white baseboards, and a white ceiling with white crown molding. The cabinetry is white with black hardware. Upper cupboards are topped with small, glass-fronted cupboards. Countertops are white quartz, and backsplashes are white subway tiles with dark grouting, giving them the appearance of brickwork. There are not a lot of cupboards in the kitchen, as the butler's pantry has an abundance of cupboards for kitchen storage. A work island in the center of the kitchen area has a white marble countertop with a single basin, black metal, and apron-front sink installed. The faucet is a high arc, spring spout faucet with pull-down sprayer. Both the faucet and soap dispenser are black metal. A stainless-steel dishwasher is built onto the island. The island countertop overhangs on three sides, creating a breakfast counter with room for eight tall stools. A modern, four-light linear pendant light fixture with clear glass, cylindrical shades hang over the island. Kitchen appliances are stainless steel and include the dishwasher, a double-wide refrigerator, and a six-burner, dual fuel range with griddle and two side-by-side ovens. A modern black hood is mounted above the range, and a black pot-filler is mounted on the white subway tile backsplash. The kitchen is sleek and stylish as it is. An interior designer can add warmth and personality to the kitchen with artwork, potted plants, and colorful textiles. The neutral color palette and high-end materials make this room compatible with many interior design styles.

The kitchen is part of an open concept area that also includes the dining area and living room. The dining area is located at the far end of the kitchen. It has white marble tile flooring, light gray walls with white baseboards, and a white ceiling with white crown molding. Recessed lighting is installed in the ceiling. It's an informal dining area with cushioned banquette seating around a sturdy, polished wood plank table with white painted, curved pedestal legs. The banquette is placed in front, and follows the curve, of the large bow window with views of the patio and swimming pool in the backyard. Because the table has both contemporary and rustic elements, an interior designer can choose from a variety of design styles for this room.

A small hallway leads from the dining room to a half bathroom on the left, a laundry room on the right, and an exterior door that provides access to a covered patio and the detached garage.  The bathroom has a warm ambience with white-trimmed, taupe-colored walls, and a white ceiling. The vanity is small and dark brown with a white quartz countertop. It holds a rectangular bronze vessel sink and a modern bronze faucet. An octagonal sink with a brown, honeycomb textured frame hangs above the vanity, and a modern bronze, linear, LED "bath bar" light is mounted above the mirror. A window with a linen shade overlooks the swimming pool and the backyard.

The laundry room has marble tile floors, light gray walls with white baseboards, and a white ceiling. Washers and dryer hookups are on the wall to the left, with a white cupboard above the washing machine. A white shelf that runs around three walls is mounted about a foot below the ceiling. White hanger rods are installed under the shelf on two sides. A white cabinet on the wall opposite the washer and dryer has several cupboards and drawers for storage, and a white quartz countertop that provides a folding surface for clean laundry. An LED light box on the ceiling provides bright lighting for completing laundry tasks.

The living room is seamlessly connected to the dining room in the open concept area. It has white marble tile floors, light gray walls with white baseboards, and a white ceiling with white crown molding. Recessed lighting is installed in the ceiling, and an eight-blade ceiling fan with a flat, round light fixture attached, is mounted over the center of the room. There are three windows in the room, one on the wall next to a staircase overlooks the side yard, and two oversized windows flanking a fireplace overlook the patio and backyard swimming pool. The gas log fireplace is surrounded by marble from the floor to the ceiling. The surround is wide enough to mount a large-screen television above the fireplace. There is no mantel or hearth; the marble of the fireplace surround is identical to the marble flooring. The wall behind the fireplace is a darker shade of gray, accenting the white and light tones throughout the room. The large windows on either side of the fireplace flood the room with Houston's brilliant sunshine.  An interior designer may choose to lean into the minimalist ambience in the room with a contemporary or minimalist design style, or create a warm, relaxed space with a design style that emphasizes comfort and warm colors in furniture and textile choices.

The living room flows into a hall that curves around to join the foyer. A cased doorway next to the front door of the house accesses a small hall that leads to the primary suite. The master bedroom has white marble tile flooring, light gray walls with white baseboards, and a light gray ceiling with white crown molding. A contemporary, five-blade ceiling fan with a round, flat light fixture attached is mounted over the center of the bedroom. A large window flanked by two smaller windows overlooks the front lawn. These three windows are covered with plantation shutters. A fixed arched window above the center window adds to the natural light flooding into the room. The wall to the right of the windows has a mini, ductless air conditioning unit mounted just below the ceiling, and a window near the next wall. The next wall to the right has a sliding "barn" door made of dark polished, horizontal wood planks mounted on a metal track above the doorway. This door introduces an unexpected, and intriguing, rustic element to the otherwise sleek, contemporary room. This unusual addition opens the bedroom to more interior design styles.

The sliding barn door covers the entrance to the ensuite bathroom. which fully embraces a rustic aesthetic. The bathroom has wide plank, blonde wood flooring, medium gray walls with white baseboards, and a white ceiling. A vanity is located on the wall to the right of the door from the bedroom. It is natural wood with a seating area and a light brown granite countertop. A copper bowl vessel sink has a rustic bronze, pump handle waterfall faucet. A rectangular, frameless mirror above the vanity has built-in LED lighting around the edges. A linear, LED light bar is mounted above the sink. A black shelving unit is built into the wall next to the vanity. On the wall opposite the vanity, a second, smaller vanity is nestled between a wall and the shower enclosure. This vanity is also natural gray wood with a granite countertop, and a vessel sink with a rustic pump handle waterfall faucet. A frameless, square mirror with built-in LED lighting around the edges hangs above the sink. The shower enclosure is the focal point of the bathroom. It's constructed of stacked flagstones in a variety of warm shades and is built from the floor to the ceiling. It protrudes a foot or so past the vanity.  A long, narrow opening across the top of the enclosure allows steam to escape. The inner walls and ceiling of the shower are natural stone tiles; the floor of the shower is natural pebble mosaic tile. A gold, three-ring, contemporary LED pendant light is suspended over the middle of the room. This bathroom is filled with character and leaves very little for an interior decorator to do. Perhaps a plant and some interesting art pieces on the built-in shelving, and a distressed wooden crate to hold towels. There are two doors in the bathroom, one opening to the water closet and the other to a walk-in closet.

The staircase to the second floor has marble risers and treads, twisted, ornamented wrought iron balusters, and a dark wood handrail. At the top of the stairs, the landing opens to a wide hall with dark hardwood flooring, light gray walls with white baseboards, a light gray ceiling with recessed lighting, and a balustrade across two sides above the foyer. Turning left, the hall becomes a family room. A sleek, five-blade ceiling fan with a flat round light fixture is suspended over the center of the room. Two windows on the wall at the end of the room overlook the backyard. A white floating shelf is mounted above each window. There is ample space for sofas, chairs, and other furnishings in the room. This space is flexible both in use and in compatibility with interior design styles. It can be elegant or rustic, formal or casual.

There are several doors off the wide hall and family room. Near the top of the stairs, a door on the left opens to one of four secondary bedrooms. This room has been converted into a media room. The floor is covered with plush carpeting in a neutral shade; the walls are painted dark gray with white baseboards, and the ceiling is light gray. A silver finish, semi-flush mount, ring-style light with a small, three-blade ceiling fan in the center is placed over the middle of the room. Three windows are covered with gray, blackout shades. Wireless speakers are installed in the ceiling. White sliding doors cover the closet. If this room is needed as a bedroom, it could be left as is, or an interior designer could give it a lighter color palette and work with the room's occupant to choose an appropriate interior design style.

Across the hall from the top of the staircase, a door opens to secondary bedroom #2. This room has plush carpeting in a neutral shade, light gray walls with white baseboards, and a light gray ceiling with recessed lighting. A modern, five-blade ceiling fan with a flat, round light attached is mounted over the center of the room. A large window on one wall allows natural light to flood the room. The window has a light gray blackout shade covering for times the brilliant Houston sunlight is not wanted. Two sets of white sliding doors cover a long, narrow closet. A door near the entrance to the bedroom leads to a bathroom that is also accessible from the family room. The neutral color palette and natural light in this room make it compatible with many interior design styles.

The bathroom has an unusual mix of rustic and contemporary interior design elements. The space features dark wood-look tile floors, light taupe walls and ceiling, and white baseboards.  A combination light and exhaust fan is installed in the ceiling. The wood vanity has a light brown granite countertop and backsplash and an oval undermount sink. A frameless mirror above the vanity has built-in LED lighting around the edges. A sleek, contemporary curved vanity light is mounted above the mirror. The built-in bathtub/shower combination is framed in a rendition of raw lumber.

Secondary bedroom #3 is located down a hallway on the opposite side of the staircase. It has plush carpeting in a neutral shade, pale gray walls with white baseboards, and a white ceiling. A five-blade ceiling fan with a flat, round light fixture attached is suspended over the center of the room. Two windows on one wall overlook the side yard. The windows have light gray blackout shades. White sliding doors cover the closet. The neutral color palette and the natural light from the two windows make this room compatible with several interior design styles.

The next door down the hall provides access to a bathroom with tile flooring that has the appearance of dark wood planks, medium gray walls with white baseboards, and a white ceiling. A natural wood vanity has a pale brown granite countertop and an oval, undermount sink with a pump handle waterfall faucet. A large, rectangular mirror with built-in LED lights around the edges hangs horizontally above the vanity, and a vanity light with square, frosted glass shades is mounted above the mirror. The built-in bathtub/shower combination has russet-colored tile walls. Like the other upstairs bathroom, there is an interesting mix of rustic and contemporary interior design elements in this room.

Secondary bedroom #4 is located behind the next, and final, door down the hall. This room has been used as a home office, but an interior designer could easily return it to use as a bedroom. It has plush carpeting in a neutral shade, slated blue walls with white baseboards, and a white ceiling. A five-blade ceiling fan with a round, flat light fixture attached is mounted over the center of the room. Two windows with plantation shade coverings overlook the front lawn and flood the room with natural light. Two sets of white sliding doors cover a long, narrow closet.

This house near Houston, in the town of Seabrook, is filled with natural light and an eclectic mix of rustic and contemporary interior design style elements.
